As an official partner of the Austrian Football Association and the Austrian Football League, geomix GmbH offers in its online store clothing and shoes around the topics of soccer, leisure, running and training. In the extensive fan store you can also find original jerseys of the major international leagues. At the location in Liezen, Styria, HÖRMANN Intralogistics built an AutoStore® system in an existing warehouse to support the e-commerce processes. The positive business development of geomix GmbH as well as the convincing economic efficiency of the AutoStore solution have led to an expansion order at the end of 2022.

HÖRMANN Intralogistics - News - Additional robots and containers on nine levels at geomix

High pick rate and large item variety

The daily operating hours of 20 hours on 5 days, the spatial conditions and several plant simulations with real data led to an original AutoStore system configuration with 52 robots and 23,500 bins on nine levels. The height of the AutoStore® grid was dictated by the existing hall.

Now the single-double grid, which is clad on three sides, has been expanded and the overall capacity increased to 1,600 picks per hour with additional robots and carousel ports.

  Initial configuration Extension Overall system
Container 23,500 900 24,400
Red-line robot 52 6 58
Carousel ports 11 2 13

The single-double grid now has a total area of 1,135 m2. In addition, various remodeling work will be carried out and a storage platform will be built as an overhang.

The 24,400 containers in the standard format 649 mm x 449 mm x 330 mm (L x W x H) each allow a payload of about 30 kg.

HÖRMANN Intralogistics - News - AutoStore robots drive themselves to the loading stations

Maximum dynamics with 1,600 picks per hour

In principle, all workstations are equipped in such a way that incoming goods or also picking can be carried out there at any time. The delivery of incoming goods at the three storage ports is carried out by the warehouse staff. With the determined 1,600 outbound picks per hour, there is a cycle time per pick of about 19 seconds.

In the grid system, stacks of 9 bins each stand directly on the hall floor. A single-double-grid track system is mounted above the tote stacks, on which the battery-powered, autonomous robots travel. They cooperatively pick up totes, re-sort them as needed and serve them at the carousel ports. The bins can be flexibly subdivided by separator inserts for the use of multiple items.

The robots move in two directions through their four pairs of wheels arranged across corners and thus reach any position in the grid. They communicate via WLAN with the AutoStore® control, which assigns the transport orders to the individual robots. If the order load is low or the battery capacity is too low, the robots drive independently to one, of the charging stations located at the edge of the grid. The AutoStore® control is located on the connected service platform.

For picking items, complete picking orders (task group) with the individual picking items (task) can be transferred to AutoStore®. With a lead time of 30 minutes, AutoStore® with its integrated optimization algorithms ensures maximum effectiveness in the processing of orders. The related positions are filed in the shipping carton, for this purpose the carton is provided with a barcode, which is "married" with the shipping order number.

"The scalable AutoStore automation solution that grows with our operational needs is an important foundation for sustainable business success, especially in e-commerce."
