HÖRMANN Intralogistics celebrates the completion of the automated small parts and pallet warehouse for KraussMaffei

KraussMaffei Techologies, the world's leading manufacturer of machinery and equipment for plastics and rubber processing, has opened its new plant in Parsdorf near Munich.  In this context, the restructuring of the entire intralogistics was carried out. During the tender, HÖRMANN Intralogistics, together with an SAP/EWM partner, convinced KraussMaffei Technologies with a clever concept and the overall package.

The implementation order included an automated small parts warehouse (AS/RS) and an automated pallet warehouse (APL) with conveyor system connection, combined picking stations for large and small parts, tower storage for sequencing, complete automation technology and warehouse management with SAP/EWM. Now the order has been completed after the successful test phases.

"As a leading pioneering plastics machine manufacturer, we had to meet the growing demand and make incoming and outgoing goods more efficient." comments Simon Kaller, Project Engineer Process Excellence at KraussMaffei Technologies. "The Hörmann Intralogistics project team supported us at every stage of this challenging undertaking. Considering the difficult supply chain situation during the pandemic years, the team always rose up to the occasion and found a solution."

Delivery of small parts

At the incoming goods (GR), the small parts delivered externally in cartons and shipping bags are manually unloaded and placed on conveyor technology. Subsequently, the goods receipt posting takes place. A conveyor belt transports the cartons and mailing bags to the repacking stations, where the items are repacked into available empty containers and insert boxes and then stored in the small parts warehouse. In order to optimize compaction, there is another workstation in front of the AS/RS loop, which combines the same container contents into one container.

Delivery of parts on pallets and pallet cages

Parts and accessories for machine assembly are delivered to the incoming goods department on one-way, industrial half-pallets and placed on one of three feed roller conveyors. At the repacking stations, these items are transferred to provided lattice boxes and on Euro pallets, transported to the APL and stored. A weight and contour check, as well as a fork clearance and board check, ensures that only correct load units are stored. In case of overweight or oversize, the loading unit is ejected to a manual workstation where it can be checked and corrected. Pallets with small parts for the small parts warehouse are also transported to one of the repacking stations, sorted into containers and then stored in the small parts warehouse.

Order-related picking of small parts and articles on pallets

At a total of nine goods-to-person picking stations, the items from AS/RS and APL are picked for assembly on an order-by-order basis. The fully picked goods per machine are then transported to the respective assembly stations.
