In its core business, Prowell produces corrugated cardboard formats on the world's fastest high-tech plants. Its own paper production and service companies ensure process optimisation at 12 European sites. In Eisfeld, Thuringia, Prowell erects a new plant for production, storage and dispatch of corrugated boards. Adjacent to the production and finishing lines, a three-aisle, fully automatic high-bay warehouse takes shape there as well. As the general contractor, Hörmann Logistik has received the essential trades for the realisation of this high-bay racking system.

Concept

After production, the different corrugated board formats are grouped on the packaging lines according to different schemes. A special aspect of Prowell's intralogistics concept is the combination of strapped corrugated board formats on pallets and non-strapped corrugated board formats without sub-pallets.

Different compartment types in the three-aisle high-bay warehouse allow fully flexible and volume-optimised storage of packing units in different combinations. Two of the three aisle-bound storage and retrieval machines (SRM) are equipped with 6 telescopic fork rakes each and one with three telescopic forks. For optimal handling of all load sizes, the tines also move sideways. The SRMs can always accommodate several packing units for storage and retrieval operations. All SRMs can always accommodate several packing units for storage and retrieval. Very large packing units with dimensions of up to 5.2 x 3.3 m move on the "large" stacker cranes. For exact positioning in front of the shelves, the S/R machines use camera-based fine positioning. Thanks to intelligent energy compensation of the HiLIS ECOPower Management System, it is possible to save up to 25% of the energy consumption of the storage and retrieval machines.

The HiLIS warehouse management system features all complex strategies for optimal storage of packing units and for optimal occupation of the compartments with differently sized packing units.
