Retrofit – Greater Efficiency Through Modernization
What is a retrofit – and when is it worth it?
Retrofit is the targeted modernization of an existing logistics system: its mechanics, controls, IT or energy technology are brought up to date – usually while operations continue, and without a full rebuild.
When a retrofit makes sense:
- When core controls are 10–15 years old or more, spare parts are getting hard to find, or updates and support have stopped.
- When the software can no longer keep up with new processes or product structures, or the in-house development expertise is no longer there.
- When lead times are rising and picking performance is stalling, or energy use climbs without any gain in output.
Distinction: Rather than replacing everything with a new build, a retrofit builds on the system you already have – with far lower investment, shorter project timelines and minimal downtime.
Are you already using a material handling system or a high-bay warehouse?
Are the mechanical components, hardware, and software of your logistics system no longer up to date, resulting in high maintenance and downtime costs? Are you no longer able to maintain the installed software? Then your system is ready for modernization.
